All of our hospitals provide an antenatal day service. You may be recommended to attend here for more advice and checks by your community midwife. Click here for information about the people you may meet in the antenatal period and beyond.
Ask your midwife about local antenatal classes which you can access.
Antenatal classes help to prepare you for your baby's birth, giving you confidence and lots of information.

A carousel evening for expectant families is also held on the last Wednesday of every month between 6 and 8pm. It is held in the clinical skills department on the 2nd floor of the Eye hospital next door to the maternity hospital. This is a very informative session with lots of information including chat to a midwife, see the Fatima Allam Birth centre through the eyes of virtual reality goggles.Learn how to fit a car seat correctly, meet staff from many agencies including children's centres, Demonstrations of bathing baby, safe sleeping and so much more. No need to book just come along and see what is on offer. Please bring your handheld maternity records with you (Green notes).Partners and families welcome.

Please remember your community midwife or staff in the maternity unit are always available if you have any concerns or need to speak to someone.
Hypnobirthing is a complete birth education programme. It teaches simple but specific self hypnosis, relaxation and breathing techniques to encourage a positive birth experience.
