Sex in pregnancy
Sex is safe in most pregnancies for all nine months, including in the beginning. If you have a history of miscarriage or are at higher-risk, you may be advised to avoid sex. Talk to your midwife or consultant if you have any worries about this.
Your partner’s libido may change during pregnancy and after birth. For some women an increased desire to have sex is normal, as is a loss of libido. This can be difficult for partners, as maintaining a regular sex life is a way of feeling close as a couple. Talk to your partner about your thoughts, but don’t pressure her into having sex if she does not want to.
